Vintage for All
Wondering whatever happened to Tragara, that funky little vintage shop on Lincoln Avenue? It has been reincarnated in River North as K. Palmer, and it’s no longer so little.

“It’s disconcerting to me when I go to a store and see a bunch of accessories strewn over tables,” he says. “I like things sparse.” That would be K. Palmer. Just rough enough around the edges (exposed pipes, a cement floor painted black) to make it feel indie, the refinished subterranean space (located underneath Ambiente Collection and across from Lee Weitzman’s new showroom) is dotted here with a green metal dinette set designed by the Italian architect Gae Aulenti in 1964 ($5,000), there with a pair of yellow Milo Baughman prototype armchairs, circa 1970 ($7,000). You’ll also find some less expensive pieces, such as four red metal European bistro chairs from the ’80s ($800), a selection of lamps ($150-$400) and pottery, including handpainted vases by Raymor Italy ($50-$300).
“River North prices can be so prohibitive,” Palmer says. “I want this to be a place where you can find very rare pieces next to some great inexpensive finds.” The all-inclusive vibe is clearly a holdover from the old location. “I’m just having fun,” Palmer says.
