On The Market—Dramatic Contemporary in Humboldt Park

Check the kitchen that Dennis calls one of best contemporary kitchens he's seen.Click here for a larger version.

List Price: $1.295 million
The Property: Clad in brick, zinc, and cedar, this is one of two sharply contemporary houses on a Humboldt Park street sprinkled with new, more traditional construction—and even its partner can’t quite match the profile of this home, with that cedar box projecting from the second floor.

Anthony Mazzone and Jerry Czerwick, partners in Buono Development, built the pair of houses, but Mazzone made most of the aesthetic choices because, he says, he is the Italian part of the team. “Italians know how things should look,” insists Mazzone. If so, his countrymen would be impressed by the sleek style here.

The kitchen is one of best contemporary kitchens I’ve seen, a crisp geometric arrangement of rectilinear forms in teak, Corian, glass, and stainless steel that meet, overlap, and, at times, appear to slide past one another, all within the framework of a rear wall of glossy black lacquer cabinets. The master bath reaches the same height of style, with a pair of shallow trough sinks, a tall glass-booth shower, and a handsome stone farm tub that fills from a spout in the ceiling. (Check it all out on the video tour.)

Other contemporary appointments include the glass railings on the front and rear balconies, a glass-walled workout room or office in the basement, and a sculptural firebox that projects from the living room wall. In all, the house has 4,200 square feet of living space including the basement, four bedrooms, and three-plus baths.

Price Points: Although nothing in the near neighborhood has sold for more than $1 million, the developers’ agent, Mike Vesole, believes that bargain-hunting buyers will venture the five blocks west of Bucktown—where, says Vesole, “this house would start at $2 million.”

and it's just off of T-dubs (Wabansia and Talman) - the most notorious drug dealing corner in all of Humboldt... what a bonus.
